O programa enquanto fator de revitalização do tecido urbano e edifícios em Lisboa : 3 obras de Gonçalo Byrne enquanto paradigma da arquitetura contemporânea

Abstract

A pergunta que persiste tem a ver com a necessidade de compreender a capacidade que edifícios e tecidos urbanos têm de persistir estruturalmente no tempo, embora com programas de uso diversos do da sua génese. Focar-nos-emos em Lisboa, cidade que, a partir da experiência da fruição das obras de Gonçalo Byrne, permite espoletar questões na base da presente investigação. Esta funda-se na premissa de que, a partir da leitura da anterioridade e do seu revelar, poderemos encontrar o tema fundador de futuras vivências na contemporaneidade. Num tempo em que a novidade é o foco da arquitetura contemporânea, esta dissertação pretende mostrar que assumir as vivências do passado num dado local pode ser ponto de partida para uma melhor vivência no futuro. Assim, foi desenvolvida uma estrutura onde, num primeiro momento, se apresenta este modo de operar desde tempos passados até intervenções na contemporaneidade. Num segundo momento, procuraremos ler as “camadas” do tecido urbano da cidade de Lisboa, em particular de alguns edifícios da autoria de Gonçalo Byrne, procurando entender de que modo os diferentes programas em diferentes tempos foram-se somando e não excluindo, porque se fundaram numa postura que inteligentemente integra intervenções anteriores.

The question that remains has to do with the need to understand the ability of buildings and urban fabrics to persist structurally over time, even though their use programs differ from those of their genesis. We will focus on Lisbon, a city which, from the experience of enjoying the works of Gonçalo Byrne, allows questions to be raised that form the basis of this research. This is based on the premise that, by reading the past and revealing it, we can find the founding theme of future experiences in contemporary times. At a time when novelty is the focus of contemporary architecture, this dissertation aims to show that taking on the experiences of the past in a given location can be a starting point for a better experience in the future. Thus, a structure has been developed in which, firstly, this way of operating is presented from past times to contemporary interventions. Secondly, we will try to read the "layers" of the urban fabric of the city of Lisbon, in particular some of the buildings designed by Gonçalo Byrne, trying to understand how the different programs at different times were added together and not excluded, because they were based on a stance that intelligently integrates previous interventions.
