Velhice, sociedade e serviço social

Abstract

O trabalho que se apresenta constitui um exercício de reflexão sobre a velhice, que passou a ser entendida como um problema e um risco social, centrando-se em particular na natureza e consequências da tipificação das pessoas idosas com base na variável idade. Pretende-se, também, duma forma breve, pensar a necessidade de adoção de uma perspetiva emancipatória por parte do Serviço Social na intervenção gerontológica.

The article is a reflection on old age, a theme that has been understood as a problem and as a social risk, particularly on the nature and consequences of the typification of elderly people based on the variable age.It is also intended, in a brief way, to think about the importance of adopting an emancipatory perspective by Social Workers in gerontological intervention.
