Santo ofício, promoção e exclusão social : o discurso e a prática

Abstract

O presente texto pretende analisar como o Santo Ofício da Inquisição conseguiu promover socialmente os indivíduos que integravam a instituição e excluir os que eram objecto de prisão e condenação. Ambas as realidades foram particularmente marcantes ao longo da Época Moderna, tornando o Santo Ofício uma instituição quer desejada quer temida.

his text intends to study how the Holy Office of the Inquisition did manage to promote socially the people who joined the institution and exclude those who were arrested and condemned. Both realities were particularly striking throughout the Modern Age, making the Holy Office an institution either desired or feared.
