Portugal e o mar

Abstract

A relação secular de Portugal com o mar e enquadrada historicamente pelo conceito estratégico nacional de expansão formulado pela dinastia de Aviz cujo ponto final se localizou na Revolução de 1974. Mas esse desenlace não impediu a manutenção da ligação de Portugal a OTAN, o que permite concluir que a adesão a União Europeia nos anos 80 foi uma decisão sem alternativa. A pertença de Portugal a OTAN traz hoje novos desafios: estando na articulação entre a segurança do Atlântico Norte com o Atlântico Sul, na articulação dessas seguranças com a do Mediterrâneo, ligado aos Estados de Língua Portuguesa na CPLP o mar vem até nós com redobradas exigências. E ou teremos vontade de dar respostas ou derivamos para destinatários de decisões alheias. E nesta hora de perplexidade nacional que avultam como inspirações os exemplos da dinastia de Aviz e o de Bartolomeu Dias.

The unique relationship between Portugal and the sea is historically significant due to the national strategic concept of expansion formulated by the Aviz dynasty (15th century) ending with the 1974 Revolution. However, this ending did not quit occur with the portuguese presence in the NATO and therefore the entrance in the European Union was a certain decision. The Portuguese presence in the NATO brings, today, new challenges and new demands: being part of the articulation of safety between the North and South Atlantic and the articulation of those securities with the Mediterranean.Connected to the Portuguese Language States in the CPLP (Portuguese Speaking Language Countries Comunity), the sea demands that either we want to answer its needs or others will decide for us. It is in this time of national perplexity that inspirational examples rise from the Aviz dynasty and from the navigator Bartolomeu Dias.
