O desafio de ser arquiteto : o bairro da Cal, uma intervenção socialmente sensível

Abstract

No seio da atual sociedade verifa-se um gradual empobrecimento moral, os meios utilizados para chegar aos fins desejados não são suficientes; tal desvirtuamento reflete-se, naturalmente, em matérias convergentes à Arquitetura. Se esta não é (possivelmente) a rutura Arquitetónica, é certamente o seu rendilhar. As causas sociais, ou seja, a vocação Arquitetónica (no seu estado mais genuíno), são um tema e prática frequentemente desvalorizado que importa, urgente e pertinentemente, "trazer a tereiro". Podemos ler e aprender, ao longo da História da Arquitetura Portuguesa (e não só), a génese e progresso de uma Arquitetura Vocacionada, verdadeiramente sensível quanto à sua missão de servir. O "saudável" exercício da Participação, com momentos mais ou menos ecoantes na História, foi um caminho trilhado que alcançou resultados ainda muito pertinentes e atuais, os quais importam enaltecer e recuperar. O confronto entre o que foi a História e a génese do comprometimento Arquitetónico, enquanto causa social e não pessoal, em contraponto com as atuais práticas, fazem-nos repensar na nossa missão enquant Arquitetos, no nosso papel, no nosso contributo. Conscientes do que se perdeu e das atuais fragilidades, aceitamos um dos Desafios ao Papel do Arquiteto: ajudar uma comunidade através do nosso contributo Arquitetónico Socialmente Sensível. O Bairro da Cal, em Vila Nova de Famalicão, carece profundamente de uma intervenção. (...) A resposta está no local, está nas conversas com os moradores, está no "porta-â-porta", está no resgatar do exercício da Participação - Projetar "com" os moradores da Cal e não "para" os moradores da Cal-, isto faz, e fez, toda a diferença. Projetar nesta ótica e com estes princípios é ir ao encontro de novas conquistas morais e consequentemente arquitetónicas; este é um trabalho extremamente desafiante, e não imaginam o quanto, ou se imagem, é porque partilham o mesmo posicionamento.

Nowadays, in the contemporary society, there is a gradual moral improverishment, the means used to reach the desired ends are not enough; such distortion is, naturally, reflected in converging matters to the Architecture. If this not (possibly) the architectural breakdown, certainly is his lapse. The social causes, such is, the Architectonic vocation (in its most genuine state), are a subject often devalued and it is urgenbtly and pertinently to its discussion. However we can read and obtain knowledge, in the History of Portuguesse Architecture (and with many others), about the genesis and progress of Vocation Architecture, that is truly sensitive to its mission of serving. The "healthy" exercise of Participation, in moments more or less echoing in History, was a path that was followed and leads to the achievement of current and pertinent results, which must be exalted and recovered. The confrontation between what was the history and the genesis of the architectural commitment, as a social cause and not personal, opposed to current practices, make us rethink ouir mission as Architects, and about our role and our contribution, as well. Aware of what has been lost and the present weaknesses, we accept one of the Challenges of the Architect Role: help a community through our Architectural Socially Sensitive contribution. The neighborhood of Cal, in Vila Nova de Famalicão, needs, urgently, an intervention. (...) The answer is on the place, in the conversations with the residents, in the door-to-door, in the rescue of the Participation exercise - Designing "with" the Cal residents and not "to" Cal residents - this does, and did, all the difference. To design, in this perspective and with these principles, leads to new moral achievements and, consequently, architectural achievements; this is an extremely challenging work, and you do not realize how much it is, otherwise, is due to the sharing of the same positioning.
