Arquitetura heliotrópica - práticas e fundamentos : reconversão do Sanatório Dr. Jerónimo Lacerda no Caramulo

Abstract

O desenvolvimento do turismo de saúde levou à construção de inúmeros Sanatórios a nível internacional e nacional. A arquitetura procurou um tipo de edifício particularmente adequado às necessidades do paciente. A presente dissertação traduz uma reflexão alimentada por um conjunto de saberes que vão desde o projeto, a arquitetura, a medicina, incluindo um conjunto de referências que passam pela história e pela sociologia a partir dos vários aspetos culturais, higiénicos e sociais que suportam as práticas da Arquitetura Heliotrópica Sanatorial. Visa assim uma leitura multidisciplinar, repensando em termos da sua salvaguarda, um objeto pouco estudado como é o caso do Sanatório Dr. Jerónimo de Lacerda. A meta deste exercício visou uma real perceção de como intervir no património sanatorial construído e devoluto, percebendo efetivamente o valor epistemológico da arquitetura heliotrópica. Relançar a problemática patrimonial é crucial na preservação desta arquitetura, promovendo o seu estudo, divulgando-o e afirmando-o enquanto herança histórica, mas acima de tudo para perceber se as suas características a tornam ou não património. A reconversão da estância Sanatorial do Caramulo tem que ser encarada como impulsionadora da revitalização da região. Acreditamos que a intervenção no Sanatório Dr. Jerónimo Lacerda recupere e alcance o equilíbrio entre arquitetura e natureza, contribuindo para divulgação e atração da vila, tronando-a mais competitiva e qualificada.

The development of curative tourism has led to the construction of numerous Sanatoriums at a national and international level. Architecture searched for a type of building particularly suited to the needs of the patient. The present dissertation is a reflection set by a group of knowledges from architecture to medicine and a group of references that go through history and sociology under the cultural, hygienic and social aspects that support the practices of the Sanatorial Heliotropic Architecture. This dissertation consists on a multidisciplinary reading, which thinks in terms of its defense, an object less studied as the Sanatorium Dr. Jerónimo Lacerda. The main goal of this dissertation was to acknowledge a real perception of how to intervene in the built and unoccupied sanatorial heritage, effectively realizing the epistemological value of heliotropic architecture. To relaunch the patrimonial problematic is crucial in the preservation of this architecture, by promoting its study, spreading it and affirming it as historical heritage, but above all to realize if its characteristics make it or not patrimony. The redevelopment of the Sanatorial resort of Caramulo has to be seen as a driving force in the region’s revitalization. We believe that the intervention in the Sanatorium Dr. Jerónimo Lacerda recovers and reaches the balance between architecture and nature, contributing to the promotion and attraction of the village, making it more competitive and qualified.
