A reconversão do património arquitéctónico moderno abandonado : antigo quartel dos Bombeiros de Riba de Ave

Abstract

A presente dissertação de mestrado integrado em Arquitectura, tem como tema de investigação a arquitectura moderna, mais concretamente a sua aplicação em Portugal, procurando entender como intervir e reconverter os edifícios, mantendo a sua integridade e valores, deixando ao mesmo tempo a marca do tempo em que se intervém. A necessidade desta investigação surge da realidade dos edifícios característicos da arquitectura moderna, uma vez que uma parte significativa do património arquitectónico moderno ainda se encontra abandonado e em mau estado de conservação. Com isso, surge a necessidade de intervir e requalificar o património, de forma a que se torne possível dar uma nova vida aos edifícios, devolvendo-os à comunidade, pois com o abandono vem a degradação que pode levar a que os edifícios fiquem em mau estado de conservação, perdendo-se, sem sombra de dúvida, pedaços da nossa história. Cabe assim aos arquitectos compreender e saber como e quando intervir no património arquitectónico. O resultado desta investigação é materializado no projecto de intervenção no Antigo Quartel dos Bombeiros de Riba de Ave, um edifício com uma organização funcional muito característica do uso para o qual foi projectado, o que adiciona um factor de interesse extra ao projecto de intervenção, pois necessita de uma intervenção mais profunda para o adaptar para uma nova realidade, respeitando a integridade e a imagem do mesmo.

This dissertation of the integrated Master’s degree in Architecture has as its investigation theme the modern architecture, more specifically its application in Portugal, and aims to understand how to intervene and reconvert the buildings, while maintaining their integrity and values, and, at the same time, leaving the traces of the period in which they were intervened. The need for this investigation emerges from the reality of the buildings characteristic of modern architecture, since a significant part of the modern architectural heritage is still abandoned and in poor condition. With that, there is a need to intervene and requalify the heritage, so that it becomes possible to give a new life to the buildings by returning them to the community, because with the abandonment comes the degradation that can lead them to a poor state of conservation, which will undoubtedly result in a loss of pieces of our history. Thus, it is up to architects to understand and know how and when to intervene in the architectural heritage. The results of this investigation are materialized in the intervention project in the Old Fire Station of Riba de Ave, a building with a functional organization very characteristic of the use for which it was designed, which adds an extra interest factor to this intervention, since it requires a deeper intervention to adapt it to a new reality, while respecting its integrity and image.
