A (in)tangibilidade da arquitetura : o caso do Mosteiro de Santo André de Rendufe - Amares

Abstract

Definir arquitetura é muito mais complexo do que aquilo que realmente se possa imaginar e poucos são aqueles que o ousam fazer. Tal como Siza, também nós não somos capazes de encontrar uma definição concreta para este tipo de arte, apenas nos é possível defender que a arquitetura é constituída por algo mais do que a realidade material, algo que não se pode tocar, somente se consegue sentir. É neste sentido que surge a presente dissertação de mestrado intitulada de A (in)tangibilidade da arquitetura. Aqui refletimos e investigamos a ligação entre os aspetos tangíveis e intangíveis que constituem uma atmosfera, em prol de uma experiência e interação arquitetónica mais estimulante. Entendemos por atmosfera o ambiente, ou se quisermos, o caráter espacial arquitetónico que contagia e comunica com o utilizador. Esta visão é de facto imaterial, mas só consegue ser concretizada com a utilização e manipulação dos instrumentos materiais. Todo o estudo está alicerçado em elementos bibliográficos relacionados com a arquitetura, a psicologia e até a engenharia, mas também em experiências arquitetónicas pessoais e em análises a obras já existentes. Perante este cenário percebemos que aquilo que mais importa na arquitetura é aquilo que é invisível aos olhos. Por isso, alertamos para a subjetividade e complexidade que o tema acarreta. Este não constitui uma ciência exata, o que faz com que as respostas não sejam vistas como fórmulas ou princípios infalíveis e irrefutáveis. Elas apenas sugerem pistas que contribuem para o nosso futuro enquanto arquitetos e intervenientes no bem-estar e na qualidade de vida das pessoas.

Defining architecture is way more complex than what we can even imagine and few are those who have the audacity to do so. Just like Siza, we also can’t find a correct definition for this kind of art, we just can say that architecture is built for something way more than material stuff, something we can’t touch, only feel. This Master thesis, entitled A (in)tangibilidade da arquitetura, was developed based on this concept. Here, we reflect and investigate the connection between the tangible and intangible aspects that form an atmosphere in favor of an experience and architectonic interaction more stimulating. We define atmosphere as the environment, or if we want, the spatial architectonic character that contagious and communicate with the user. This vision is indeed, immaterial, but it can only be realized with the use and manipulation of the material instruments. The whole study is based on bibliographic elements related with architecture, psychology and even engineering, but also in personal architecture experiences and analyzes about existing works. By this scenario, we understand that the most important thing in architecture is the things that are invisible to the eyes. So, we warn for the subjectivity and complexity that the theme entails. It, doesn’t constitute an exact science, which makes the answers to not be seen as formulas or infallible and incontestable principals. They just suggest clues that contribute for our future as architects and interveners on the well-being and the people’s quality of life.
