Salazar e a política económica do Estado Novo

Abstract

Neste breve texto, pretende-se verificar como as características pessoais de Salazar influenciaram a política económica do Estado Novo. De que forma as suas origens sociais e os seus valores morais, éticos e religiosos resultantes da educação em seminário e das relações com a Igreja, estão refl ectidos na política económica. A ênfase deste texto contraria os paradigmas do racionalismo e do papel dos mercados, segundo os quais a evolução das sociedades e da economia dependem de equilíbrios e de decisões com base em lógicas de optimização e de racionalidades maximizadoras de utilidades, onde as intervenções exógenas do Estado criam disfunções no funcionamento da “ordem” económica; os ideais do liberalismo assentam na supremacia do indivíduo e o bem-estar colectivo numa soma das satisfações individuais.

This brief text aims to demonstrate how the personal character of Salazar, influenced the economical politics of the New State. How his social origins, moral, ethical and religious values, as result of his education in a religious institution, and his relation with Church, are reflected on his economical politics. The emphasis of this text, contradicts the rationalism paradigm and the role of the markets on which the society and the economical evolution, depend on balance and decisions based on optimal logic and useful maximized rationalities where the external interventions of the State create disfunctions on the economical “order”, the ideal of liberalism supports itself on the supremacy of the individual and the collective well being as the result of individual satisfaction.
