Cunha Leal e os primórdios da Segunda Guerra Mundial - I

Abstract

O presente artigo analisa o pensamento político de Francisco Pinto da Cunha Leal sobre a Europa, nos primórdios da Segunda Guerra Mundial. As suas observações defi nem o conjunto de valores da civilização europeia confrontada com os regimes totalitários da época. Civilização europeia que é o produto da tradição greco-romana e cristã, mas com contributos posteriores, que vão do humanismo renascentista, ao liberalismo e se identifi ca com a democracia moderna existente na França e na Grã-Bretanha.

The current article analyzes the political thoughts of Francisco Pinto da Cunha Leal about Europe, in the beggining of the Second World War. His observations defi ne the set of values of European civilization when faced with the totalitarian regimes of the time. The European civilization is the product of the Greek-Roman and Christian traditions, with later contributions that range from the renaissance humanism to the liberalism and it identifi es itself with modern Democracy as it exists in France and Great Britain.
