A Hungria entre duas guerras mundiais

Abstract

Integrados numa estrutura política denominada União Europeia, tendemos contudo a conhecer mal, ou mesmo a desconhecer em absoluto, a história de muitos dos nossos parceiros desta União, embora com alguns deles a nossa história se tenha entrelaçado. Parece, pois, ser fácil inferir que para um melhor conhecimento recíproco importa obviar a esse tão notório desconhecimento. Foi partindo desta premissa inicial, aliada ao estudo de um período marcante da História da Europa, particularmente para a maior parte dos países que mais recentemente integraram a UE – a primeira metade do século XX –, associada ao estudo falerístico de alguns espécimes desse período, dando melhor a conhecer um desses novos membros, a Hungria, designadamente as motivações das suas pretensões territoriais no denominado período da Regência. A abertura da legação de Portugal em Budapeste, em 1939, veio fornecer um importante manancial de informação sobre tão conturbado período da história do país.

Integrated in a political structure called European Union (EU), we tend however to badly know, or even to be unaware in absolute, the history of many of our partners in this Union, although with some of them our history has some links. It seems, therefore, to be easy to infer that for a better reciprocal knowledge it is our task to prevent this situation. This was our fi rst premise, allied to the study of a striking period in European History, particularly for most of the countries that recently integrated the EU - the fi rst half of the 20th century -, this issues allied with the study of some phaleristics specimens of this period, will allow us to know better one of these new members, Hungary, pointedly the motivations of its territorial claims in the period called Regency. The Portuguese lagation in Budapest, opened in 1939, gave us fondamental information about those troubled days of Hungarian history.
