A interpretação da escala nas arquitecturas de poder, Estado Novo

Abstract

O trabalho é iniciado através da compreensão do termo escala e da sua pluralidade de interpretações. Após escrutínio do termo escala é determinada a sua relação inerente à arquitectura A utilização consciente da escala na arquitectura como imposição de poder e fé, a “arquitectura de fazer acreditar” (Albert Levy). O desenvolvimento da primeira abordagem do trabalho culmina na compreensão da utilização consciente e sistemática de uma escala monumental na arquitectura enquanto imposição de poder e consequente subjugação social a regimes totalitários do séc.XX. Deste modo os casos de Itália e Alemanha são brevemente analisados estabelecendo um paralelismo evidente sobre modelos arquitectónicos que utilizam a escala monumental enquanto afirmação de poder. Assim, é estabelecida uma relação com caso do Estado Novo em Portugal, enquanto manifestação de poder do regime através da arquitectura. A celebração do poder através da exposição do Mundo Português. This work/paper has started by trying to understand the term scale and its plurality of interpretations. After a thorough examination of the plurality of meanings, the term scale is determined in relation to the inherent relation to architecture. The conscious use of scale in architecture as an imposition of power and faith, the architecture of believing. The development of the first approach to this work/paper culminates in the conscious and systematic understanding of a monumental scale in architecture while the imposition of power and consequent social subjugation to the totalitarian regimes of the 20th century. Thus the cases of Italy and Germany are briefly analyzed by establishing clear parallelism over architectural models that use the monumental scale as a statement of power. Therefore a relationship is established with the case of the new state in Portugal.
