Tradição e inovação no processo de reabilitação arquitectónica do Mercado Municipal de Vila Nova de Famalicão

Abstract

Resumo: Com o desenvolvimento excessivo das cidades até às suas periferias, surgiu a necessidade de se retornar aos centros – a origem das urbes – de forma a conseguir, não só o retorno da população, mas também responder ao interesse turístico que por eles tem vindo a crescer. Com o passar do tempo, a sociedade ganha consciência de que é necessário tomar medidas relativamente ao edificado existente, repleto de cultura e história e, consequentemente, surge a procura por uma solução que cristalize esse valor, para que possa ser visto por todos. Nasce assim a reabilitação, o conceito base que fundamenta esta dissertação. Posto isto, estudamos o conceito de reabilitação desde a sua génese e segundo os seus verdadeiros princípios e articulamos posteriormente a perspetiva defendida com os conceitos de tradição, o qual se integra diretamente com o sentido etimológico de reabilitação, e inovação, conceito fulcral para que o objeto se insira nos padrões da atualidade. De seguida, ensaiamos a projetação da mesma numa construção que tira partido do objeto histórico existente, mantendo-o e relacionando-o com uma nova construção dedicada à imagem e necessidades atuais. Como resultado, conseguimos alcançar a verdadeira definição de reabilitar e compreender como o arquiteto, quando reabilita, tem a função de manter os valores do objeto pois são caracterizadores de um povo, compatibilizando-os com a novidade para que se adeque ao presente. Através destes dois conceitos dicotómicos é possível criar uma solução capaz de dinamizar algo que, apesar do seu valor histórico, já não despertava o interesse dos utilizadores. Assim, conseguimos recriar um espaço, relacionando-o com os outros que o potenciam, de forma a dar-lhe uma nova utilidade.

Abstract: With the overdevelopment of cities to their peripheries, there was a need to return to the centers - the origin of the cities - in order to achieve not only the return of population, but also to respond to the tourist interest that has been growing for them. Over time, society becomes aware that it is necessary to take action on the existing building, full of culture and history and, consequently, the search for a solution that crystallizes this value arise, so that it can be seen by all. Thus, rehabilitation was born, the basic concept that underlies this dissertation. Therefore, we study the concept of rehabilitation from its genesis and according to its true principles and articulate the perspective defended with the concepts of tradition, which is directly integrated with the etymological meaning of rehabilitation and innovation, a central concept for the object to the current standards. Then, we rehearse the projection of the same in a construction that takes advantage of the existing historical object, maintaining it and relating it with a new, dedicated to the image and current needs. As a result, we achieve the real definition of rehabilitating and understanding the architect, when rehabilitating, has the function of maintaining the values of the object because they characterize a people, making them compatible with the novelty to suit the present. Through these two dichotomous concepts it is possible to create a solution capable of dynamizing something that, despite its historical value, no longer aroused the users' interest. Thus, we can recreate a space, relating it with the others that empower it in order to give it a new usefulness.
