Uma reflexão sobre os valores fundamentais da arquitetura

Abstract

Observa-se, principalmente nas novas gerações de arquitetos, uma alienação e um desinteresse em relação à disciplina de arquitetura que consideramos ser preocupante. Entendemos que a cultura do novo é um dos problemas causados por essa desconexão com a disciplina. Hoje os arquitetos atuam numa condição, em que se colocam dentro do sistema capitalista de consumo. Criam objetos como se fossem produtos novos, sem qualquer relação com os problemas disciplinares da arquitetura e sem demonstrarem qualquer atitude para com a história da disciplina. Acreditamos que esta condição está assente na naturalização da ideia de que a arquitetura é uma disciplina social, cujo valor esta dependente do conforto e da melhoria de qualidade de vida que pode ou não oferecer à sociedade. Contudo, é do nosso entendimento que o valor da arquitetura não está na resolução de problemas exteriores a si. Entendemos, que é da responsabilidade do arquiteto legitimar a arquitetura como sendo uma arte com um valor próprio, na sua disciplina, na sua história e nas problemáticas que lhe são particulares. Considera-se por isso importante refletir sobre a disciplina, procurar perceber a sua origem disciplinar, qual é a sua área de interesse e quais as principais ideias e valores que a definiram ao longo da história. Ao mesmo tempo, através do método de instrumentalização da história, aspira-se a um realinhamento dos arquitetos com a sua disciplina, eliminando o pragmatismo com que a encaram e terminando com a ideia de que a arquitetura é estruturada de fora para dentro.

It is observed, especially in the new generations of architects, an alienation and disinterest in relation to the discipline of architecture that we consider to be worrying. We understand that the culture of the new is one of the problems caused by this disconnect with the discipline. Today, architects act in a condition in which they place themselves within the capitalist system of consumption. They create objects as if they were new products, without any relation to the disciplinary problems of architecture and without showing any attitude to the history of the discipline. We believe that this condition is based on the naturalization of the idea that architecture is a social art whose value is dependent on the comfort and improvement of quality of life that it may or may not offer to society. However, it is our understanding that the value of architecture is not in solving problems outside of itself. We understand that it is the responsibility of the architect to legitimize architecture as an art with its own value, in its discipline, in its history and in the problems that are particular to it. It is therefore important to reflect on the discipline, to seek to understand its disciplinary origin, what is its area of interest and what are the main ideas and values that have defined it throughout history. At the same time, through the method of instrumentalization of history, one aspires to a realignment of the architects with their discipline, eliminating the pragmatism with which they face it and ending with the idea that the architecture is structured from the outside to the inside.
